LAUGHH is an acronym that stands for Live Abundantly Using Guided Helping Hands.
LIVE: Live! Live well, with joy and laughter. Use the healing powers of laughter to your advantage.
“Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” Psalm 126:2
ABUNDANTLY: We are blessed and believe we must share our abundance with others. We are inspired by John 10:10:
“I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.”
USING: Our gifts are many; we must put them to good use.
“From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded.” Luke 12:48
GUIDED: We believe a higher power is guiding us through the creation of LAUGHH and its programs. We continue to ask for inspiration and guidance as we grow and evolve.
HELPING: We aspire to help others through our programs, to LIFT those who need a hand UP and not a hand out. We want to give those in need an edge to improve their lives, whether it be an improvement to their health and wellness or to a young person’s professional future.
HANDS: Hands provide a connecting point for us all. With our hands we deliver manual labor, a healing touch, a strong, confident handshake. With our hands we hold the string to a red balloon as it lifts towards the heavens. St. Theresa of Avila tells us:
“Christ has no body on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours. Yours are the eyes through which Christ’s compassion for the world is to look out; yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good; and yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now.”
In 2004 we came together as a group of 16 strangers to do a mission trip to Chulucanas, Peru. 122 surgeries and two schools built in 10 days and our group was cemented in friendship!
We promised each other that we would gather from across the US in one of our home cities and take turns hosting a long weekend. The two stipulations were that we would have a philanthropic project to work on as a group and that we would have lots of fun together.
Since that time, this group has painted a halfway house, organized a homeless children’s school closet, built part of a habitat house, cleared a lot for a community garden and much more! These projects may have involve a little blood, sweat and tears, but for sure involved laughter and a few Pisco Sours along the way!
Now we want to pick up our mission activities again as a team and hit the road! Through LAUGHH – Live Abundantly Using Guided (God’s) Helping Hands – we will be organizing mission trips to serve those less fortunate. Our first trip with LAUGHH is scheduled for July 2014 to Colombia, the birth country of one of our members. We can hardly wait to see where we are going, with God’s Guidance, of course!
